In August of 2023, Kim ran into her friend and chiropractor, Diana Salzmann, in front of Mac’s on the Marietta Square. They discussed dating and how Kim wanted to only meet someone “in real life.” Diana said she knew of a friend she had known for 16 years who had recently retired and liked to travel. Diana passed along Kim’s number to Todd. Todd had just retired from his career in management consulting, bought a new townhome, and was moving his son to NYC. Kim was also in a jury trial. It took a couple of weeks of texts and a phone call before they were able to set up their first “blind” date on September 2, 2023.
Since Kim lived in the Marietta Square area, he suggested they go out for dinner there. Kim, knowing full well they would run into half the town, suggested maybe Woodstock would be better. Dinner was at the Century House on the porch with some live music after. They ended up talking about everything and nothing until 2:30am. He asked her out for the very next night. Another dinner and talking. They ended up going out 4 times that same week and talking until the wee hours.
Many more dates followed. Kim even invited him to help her bring home her rescue kitty, Max. Max is now their kitty. Trips to Savannah, Jamaica and Cancun followed in 2023. Ghost tours are not their thing.
2024 saw even more travel with Aspen, Dominican Republic, Key West, Frisco, Philly, Seattle, Vancouver and LBI. He met her friends. She met his kids and golf buddies.
Kim’s Mom, Gwen, progressed further into her dementia and passed in August of 2024. Todd was there with her as gentle support through those final days. Todd was also support, spectator and driver for 2 long jury trials through the end of the year.
More trips to Paris, Normandy, Aruba, Mississippi, New Orleans and Florida closed out 2024. A skiing trip to Zermatt in January of 2025 with Todd’s children brought them closer as a couple when Kim thought she might die on a mountain in Switzerland.
Kim and Todd have decided to travel through the rest of their lives together - no matter what comes their way.
